Man Accused Of Driving Into Campbell Home To Harm Girlfriend, Kids

CAMPBELL (CBS SF) -- A man was arrested in Campbell on Wednesday after he allegedly drove his car into a house in an effort to harm himself and a woman and children in the car with him, according to police.

Police were called to a house at Westmont Avenue and San Tomas Aquino Road around 3:10 p.m. after an Acura Integra drove into a house, according to police Sgt. Gary Berg.

Arriving officers found that the driver had tried to flee the scene but was detained by a neighbor, Berg said.

After speaking to witnesses and involved parties, investigators determined that the driver deliberately drove into the house in an effort to harm himself and his girlfriend and the children who were passengers in the car, Berg said.

"He made comments to the girlfriend indicating his intentions," Berg said.

It is unclear whether the children were the driver's children, Berg said.

The driver, identified as 27-year-old Anthony McSherry Jr. of Campbell, and the passengers were taken to hospitals for treatment but none suffered life-threatening injuries, Berg said.

All four were released from the hospital as of Wednesday night, Berg said.

McSherry was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted homicide and driving under the influence, Berg said.

The house remains habitable and no one in the house was injured. The home appears to have been randomly targeted and has no connection to the people in the car, Berg said.
