No Merit To Kidnapping Report That Caused BART Delays In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A report of a kidnapping that shut down BART service through San Francisco during rush hour Friday evening had no merit, according to a police spokesman.
San Francisco police asked BART to hold trains at the 16th Street station in both directions around 5:30 p.m. to investigate a reported kidnapping, according to BART officials.
Police were called to the scene by a woman saying a man had tried to board a train with her child, according to Sgt. Eric O'Neal.
Investigators determined that a couple had been arguing when the father tried to walk away with their child, but that the incident did not constitute a kidnapping, O'Neal said.
BART trains were released back into service around 6 p.m. but the incident caused major delays during rush hour.
