San Jose Police Arrest Suspected 'Can't Stop Won't Stop' Bandits
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Two San Jose men were arrested last week in connection with a rash of armed robberies at liquor stores and markets in San Jose that occurred in recent months, police announced Thursday.
Between Dec. 28 and last Friday, as many as 20 armed robberies occurred at stores throughout the city, police said.
One of the suspects would usually enter the store and point a gun at the cashier and demand cash. Sometimes the suspect made the cashier get on the ground or move around the store, police said.
After each robbery, the suspect would run away and get into a vehicle where the other suspect was waiting. The suspects would hold up multiple stores in one night, police said.
Last week, the suspects started to shoot off the gun during the robberies, according to police.
The suspects, identified as Jesus Escobar, 25, and Angel Rodriguez-Leon, 22, were dubbed the "Can't Stop Won't Stop" bandits for their frequent robberies, according to police.
Late last Friday, the robbers struck again. An initial robbery was reported at a market in the Berryessa area and another was reported two hours later at a store in Willow Glen.
In the second incident, the suspects robbed both the store clerk and a customer, according to police.
An officer spotted one of the men as he exited the Willow Glen store and saw him get into a waiting vehicle, police said.
The officer called for backup and tried to stop the car.
The two men allegedly tried to get away on foot and one had a gun on him, but officers were able to arrest both suspects without injury, police said.
The men were booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of committing multiple armed robberies, police said.
Police determined a gun used in many of the robberies had previously been stolen during a home burglary.
The pair was arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court on Wednesday on various charges, including robbery charges, firearm violations, and gang enhancements, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office spokesman Sean Webby.
