82-Year-Old Woman Killed In San Francisco Hit-And-Run Identified

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A woman who was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing a street in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley neighborhood Thursday morning has been identified as Oi Yeung, according to the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

Yeung, an 82-year-old San Francisco woman, was struck around 11:15 a.m. at Bayshore Boulevard and Visitacion Avenue by a driver in a white Dodge Durango that fled the scene, according to police.

Police had initially believed Yeung was in her 60s.

She was hit by the SUV that turned left onto Bayshore Boulevard where Yeung was crossing the street on a green light, according to police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver continued north on Bayshore Boulevard after hitting her and then turned left onto Leland Avenue one block away.

According to witness accounts, it appeared the driver was heading back to the scene, but instead he drove away south on Bayshore Boulevard, police said.

On Friday morning, police continue searching for the driver. An image of the SUV with a black ski rack on top was released Thursday evening.

The driver is described as having short curly hair and light brown skin and is either black with light skin or Hispanic.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon issued a statement Thursday night sharing his condolences with Yeung's family and urging everyone on the road to be careful.

"With San Francisco's roadways becoming increasingly dense, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians cannot afford to get distracted or let their guard down," he said in the statement.

There have been six fatal pedestrian deaths in San Francisco so far this year.
