SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — As Twitter celebrates its 8th birthday with a website allowing users to see their first tweets, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s first tweet revealed a bit of irony as he congratulated then President-elect Barack Obama on his re-election.

The tweet was accompanied by a link to the Kremlin’s official website in English where Putin hailed the “results obtained in developing Russian-US relations”

But, that relationship has been strained under a standoff between Russia and the West over the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.
