Armed Man Wearing Trash Bag Robs Salinas Jack-In-The-Box

SALINAS (CBS SF) — A man wearing a trash bag on Thursday robbed cash registers and a patron at a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant at gunpoint in Salinas and then fled on a bicycle down Main Street, police said.

Police were called at 6:41 p.m. Thursday about a robbery by a man armed with a semi-automatic handgun who entered the restaurant at 975 N. Main St., police Cmdr. Michael Groves said.

The suspect, described as a man in his 30s, had disguised himself by donning a trash bag over a long-sleeved shirt, Groves said.

The man waived the handgun in front of customers, jumped over the front counter and ordered employees to open the cash registers, police said.

He pointed the gun at employees and at one point placed the barrel of the gun into the mouth of a worker, according to police.

The armed suspect then stuffed stolen cash into a duffle bag, leapt back over the counter and robbed a patron, Groves said.

The man exited the store, got onto a bicycle was last seen riding down south down Main Street, police said.
