SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — An elderly woman has died, two people were in critical condition and three others sustained moderate to minor injuries during a fire at two residential buildings near Cow Palace in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood Tuesday evening, a paramedic captain said.
The two-alarm blaze was reported at 5:25 p.m. on Castillo Street near Geneva Avenue, San Francisco fire Paramedic Captain Beth Goudreau said.
The fire was located at a wooden building but also impacted a neighboring building, Goudreau said.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at 6:09 p.m., according to Goudreau.
Christian Rizos says it was his 84-year-old aunt Jane Thompson who died.
His uncle had to jump from the second floor to escape.
“He broke the window and dangled out the window and let himself go to the concrete.”
His 2 aunts, uncles and cousins have all lived in the unit since 1964.
Five other people were transported to the hospital, all are believed to be adults, Goudreau said.
Two of the victims were transported in critical condition. One person was transported with moderate injuries and two people were transported with minor injuries. An additional person complained of injury but refused to be transported, Goudreau said.
