98-Year-Old Man Struck, Killed Crossing Street In Berkeley

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A 98-year-old man died after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Berkeley on Friday, a police spokeswoman said Saturday.

Joseph Luft of Berkeley was crossing the intersection of Bancroft Way and Sacramento Street when he was hit, authorities said.

Emergency responders took Luft to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening, according to Berkeley police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene on Friday and is cooperating with police.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
