SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The San Francisco Giants are opening their 15th season in AT&T Park Tuesday beginning with a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Giants have a 5-2 record from road series against the Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers to start the season, returning home for a rematch with the Diamondbacks followed by a series against the Colorado Rockies.
The first 40,000 fans attending the home opener at 1:35 p.m. will receive an opening day calendar.
Tim Hudson, recently acquired from the Atlanta Braves, will pitch the home opener, facing off against Diamondbacks right-hander Trevor Cahill in a rematch of the Giants’ 2-0 victory last Wednesday.
Hudson is returning to the Bay Area after pitching for the Oakland A’s from 1999 to 2004.
Fans have been asked to arrive early for opening ceremonies, which will begin at about 12:45 p.m. Gates will open at 11:05 a.m.
The National Anthem will be sung by Capital Cities, a California-based indie pop duo formed by Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, best known for their hit song “Safe and Sound,” team officials said.
The Giants are seeking to rebound this season from a 76-86 record in 2012. Key injuries kept the Giants from being competitive for most of the season following their 2012 World Series victory.
