Family Of 9 Escapes 2-Alarm Fire In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) — A two-alarm residential fire displaced a family of nine in San Jose early Tuesday morning, a fire captain said.

The fire in the 2200 block of Moorings Court at Woodset Drive was reported around 4 a.m., Capt. Reggie Williams said.

Fire crews found the garage at the home, near Alum Rock Avenue and Capitol Expressway, heavily involved with flames that spread to the second floor of the home, he said.

The blaze was under control by around 5:30 a.m., Williams said.

The American Red Cross was called to aid two adults and seven children displaced by the fire, he said.

The seven children range from six weeks old to 15 years old, according to Williams.

At about 4 a.m., their mother heard the smoke alarm turn on, woke everyone up and safely evacuated the family out of the home, he said.

Two neighboring homes located just feet away from the residence sustained external damages, Williams said.
