Grand Opening For SF's Bayview Hunters View Apartments, Residents Get 'Million Dollar Views'

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Hunters View apartment complex had its grand opening this week and it has what some are calling "million dollar views". The new development in San Francisco's Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood is a result of a public-private partnership.

At one time old military barracks made up the housing at Hunters View, sitting on top of the hill overlooking the old shipyard, the Bay Bridge and the Bay.

Mayor Ed Lee said the nearly half-billion dollar project as part of his HOPE SF initiative will uplift the entire community.

"Here 107 units of housing, a part of a larger commitment that we will have when the whole thing is completed, over 267 units, a part of some 400-500 units that we'll rebuild as part of mixed-income housing," he said.

P.J. Lulio a resident who lived in the old units, now has a new apartment and called it the best view in San Francisco from his living room.

"What is going on up here is amazing. I'm looking forward to making new memories, better memories with my family and I'm sure other residents are looking forward to it too,"

Mayor Lee and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi agreed that the apartments already built are uniting the neighborhood.
