2 Men Arrested For Kidnapping, Robbing Woman Who Answered Craigslist Ad For iPhone
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) — Two men were in custody for the March 10 kidnapping and robbery of a woman outside a Target store in East San Jose who answered a listing on Craigslist to buy iPhones from them, San Jose police said Monday.
San Jose police, assisted by police in Visalia, Calif. and the California Department of Justice Fugitive Task Force, on Thursday located and arrested one suspect, Cody Hollinquest, 18, in Visalia, Officer Albert Morales said.
The other suspect, Willie Christopher, 24, was apprehended on March 27 in Tulare, Calif., in a joint operation by the San Jose and Tulare police, Morales said.
Hollinquest and Christopher were each booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of kidnapping for ransom and robbery, police said.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on March 10, a woman informed police that two men had kidnapped her from the parking lot of a Target store at 3155 Aborn Road in East San Jose, Morales said.
The woman had arranged to meet a person who had placed a listing on Craigslist offering to sell numerous iPhones for cash, but the victim said she felt uneasy when two people showed up in a car at the parking lot instead of one, according to Morlaies.
The woman reported that the men complained she had not brought the amount of money agreed upon to buy the phones, and they then forced her into their car and drove away from the lot, police said.
The suspects ordered her to get more money from one of her friends and deliver it them, which she did.
The men, who never produced any phones to sell, took the money, dropped her back off at the Target store and drove way, police said.
Prior to Christopher’s arrest, San Jose police detectives concluded that Christopher had been the one who had arranged to sell the iPhones to the victim, Morales said.
