SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – San Jose police called off a search Friday morning in an East San Jose neighborhood for a pair of suspects wanted for robbing a convenience store, a police spokesman said.

Police set up a perimeter and asked residents to shelter in place in the area of the intersection of Marten Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road, close to a 7-Eleven store that was robbed earlier today, Officer Albert Morales said.

The Police Department announced at about 9 a.m. that residents in the area were permitted to leave their homes after the search was called off, Morales said.

The two suspects, believed to be armed and dangerous, had apparently left the area of the perimeter where police where looking for them, he said.

Officers responded at about 4:45 a.m. to a report of the armed robbery at the 7-Eleven store.

The suspects were also allegedly looking into vehicles in the area shortly before the robbery, police said.

After the robbery, in which a handgun was used, officers observed the pair of suspects walking in the area and tried to make contact with them, but they took off running, according to police.

Officers gave chase but lost sight of the suspects, who began jumping over fences, police said. They did recover discarded clothing.

Police surrounded the area, from Marten Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road to the southeast and Rocky Mountain and Mount Kenya drives to the northwest, and asked residents there to stay in their homes.
