Infant Who Died After Father Left Him In Hot San Jose Car Identified

SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- Authorities have identified the infant who died after he was accidentally left in a hot vehicle by his father in San Jose.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner on Monday says 9-month-old Giovanni Alonzo Hernandez of Los Gatos died of hyperthermia due to enclosure within a sports utility vehicle on April. 16.

Police say the boy's father told investigators he was supposed to drop the infant off at a babysitter's house before going to work. Instead, he parked his vehicle and went to work while his son was still strapped in his car seat.

The father returned to his vehicle after work and found his son unresponsive. The father's name has not yet been released.

Santa Clara County prosecutors have yet to decide whether the father should face criminal charges.
