Santa Cruz Begins Mandatory Water Rationing

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) - Residents in single-family homes are now required to limit water use in Santa Cruz, or face added fees.

Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities customers are now allotted 249 gallons of water per-day at regular water rates. The price goes up for any extra water they use - $25 for the first ten percent over the allotment and $50 for each ten percent after that.

Households with more than four residents can ask for an additional allotment.

Those with fewer than four people are being asked to keep their usage to sixty gallons per-person per-day.

Those penalties will start with this month's billing cycles.
