Injured Brentwood Woman Describes Saving Her Chihuahua From Brutal Dog Attack

BRENTWOOD (KPIX 5) -- A Brentwood woman and her Chihuahua, both victims of a brutal dog attack, were recovering Friday while the dog that attacked them was under quarantine.

Carolyn Wax told KPIX 5 two dogs, a Sharpei cross and a Labrador, came up on her on her dog Bobby quickly. "These two dogs came up on my front porch and the black one attacked Bobby right away."

"It just wouldn't let go … at one point I thought his whole face was in [the dog's] mouth."

When Wax tried to pull the Sharpei off of Bobby, it began to attack her as well. Both Wax and her dog needed stitches following their dog bites.

The attack followed another attack by the same two dogs on a man walking his two dogs nearby. He also was bitten and required medical attention.

Contra Costa Animal Services said the dogs' owner did not secure them properly and the agency had previously investigated the house where the dogs got loose.

"Please be sure to keep your gates closed and secure," said Wax. "I don't know if i'll be able to take my dog for a walk again."

The dogs will be quarantined for 10 days until the shelter determines whether the dogs can be labeled as dangerous.
