Decomposed Body Found Near Stinson Beach Appears To Be A Man

STINSON BEACH (CBS SF) -- A badly decomposed body found near Stinson Beach on Sunday appears to be that of a man, a Golden Gate National Recreation Area spokeswoman said Monday afternoon.

The body was on a hillside off of state Highway 1 a considerable distance from the water at Stinson Beach, GGNRA spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet said.

Two German-speaking tourists found the body but because they did not speak English well, they waved down another person who reported it, Picavet said.

The Marin County Fire Department got a call about the body at 11:23 a.m. Sunday, a fire dispatcher said. The National Park Service was notified at 12:10 p.m., Picavet said.

Based on the clothing the deceased person was wearing and the location of the body away from any trail or common area, it is not believed the deceased person was a hiker, Picavet said.

The man's identity has not yet been determined.

Two female hikers, Marie Christian Sanner, 50, of Mill Valley, and Magdalena Glinkowski, 33, of Menlo Park, were found dead in Mount Tamalpais State Park in April, but their deaths are not considered foul play. The results of their autopsies are still pending results of toxicology tests.

The deceased person found Sunday was on land in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. U.S. Park police and the Marin County coroner's office are investigating the death, Picavet said.
