Amazon To Operate Distribution Center Out Of Newark Warehouse, Bringing 400 Jobs

NEWARK (CBS SF) -- Amazon is bringing hundreds of jobs to the Bay Area.

By the end of summer, a sprawling 575-thousand square foot warehouse in Newark will house Amazon's latest distribution center.

Newark's mayor hopes it will be a boost for the city's economy.

"When you have 400 jobs, those people go out and buy lunch, they'll do some of their shopping in Newark," Mayor Alan Nagy said.

Amazon isn't the only company choosing the East Bay over Silicon Valley and San Francisco.

"We found that there are over thirty companies in the last eighteen months who have relocated to the East Bay from San Francisco," Bill Nork, Senior Vice President of Cornish & Cary Commercial said.

With rental rates in San Francisco continuing to rise, it could be a popular trend.
