Man Fires Semi-Automatic Gun At Crowd In Salinas

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Police are looking for a man who fired several rounds at a group of people in Salinas late Friday night.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of Cortez Street around 11:20 p.m., police said.

A man armed with a semi-automatic gun approached a group of 10 to 12 people in front of a residence then fired at them, according to police.

When the gun misfired, the man racked the round out and shot another again, missing the crowd, police said.

He attempted to fire another round but the gun misfired again.

As the group ran into the house, the man followed them inside where he again attempted to shoot at them, police said. He cornered them in a back room but fled the scene after his gun misfired twice, according to police.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s last seen in a vehicle similar to a white Honda fleeing towards Mae Avenue.

Investigators recovered several live rounds and a spent casing, police said.

No injuries were reported.
