Hayward Man Sentenced To 17-Years In Prison For Child Pornography

HAYWARD (CBS SF) — A Hayward man arrested with hundreds of sexually explicit photos of children on his cellphone will spend more than 17 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Terry Howell, 57, pleaded guilty in February to distributing child pornography, as well as possessing it.

Some of the images in his possession depicted minors being subjected to sadistic conduct, and court documents indicate Howell’s desire to commit extreme violence against a child.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken sentenced Howell to 210 months in prison, followed by a 10-year period of supervised release.

Once released, prosecutors said Howell will be required to undergo sex offender-specific treatment, will be subject to random residential searches, and will be forbidden from contacting anyone under 18.

Howell has been in police custody since his arrest on Sept. 13, 2013, and he has begun serving his sentence.

Prosecutors said Howell had already been convicted for sex offenses against a child at the time of his arrest.
