Suspect Driving Stolen Car Causes Injury Crash On Highway 17 Near Scotts Valley

SCOTTS VALLEY (CBS SF) -- Police in Scotts Valley were seeking one or more suspects who caused an injury collision while driving a stolen car on state Highway 17 early Saturday morning, police said.

At about 1 a.m. on Saturday, police tried to stop a vehicle with its lights turned off on Mt. Hermon Road at La Madrona Drive but the driver failed to yield, police said.

The driver of the vehicle continued onto northbound Highway 17, driving south against oncoming traffic, at which point the officers stopped pursuing the vehicle, police said.

The suspect vehicle collided with at least one other vehicle on the highway north of the Pasatiempo Drive on-ramp. The suspect or suspects had fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, police said.

At least one person in a vehicle on the highway was injured during the hit-and-run collision, officers said.

A possible suspect was located later, but no one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing, police reported.

Officers learned that the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen out of Santa Cruz.

Anyone with information about the stolen car or the suspects in the hit and run collision are urged to contact Scotts Valley police at (831) 440-5670.
