Husband Arrested In Fremont Woman's Strangling Death

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his wife was found strangled in their Fremont home on Sunday morning, police said Monday.

Balvir Singh was arrested after his wife, Anita Sidhu, 39, was found dead inside their home in the 39000 block of Royal Palm Drive in Fremont at 9:57 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

Investigators learned that Singh had fled from the home with his passport prior to other family members discovering Sidhu's body.

Detectives tracked down Singh and arrested him shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Ethyl Street in Milpitas, police said.

Police said a confession by Singh, as well as physical and digital evidence and witness statements tie him to his wife's death.

He remains in custody and is set to be arraigned at the Fremont Hall of Justice on Tuesday, according to police.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Fremont police Detective Gebhardt at (510) 790-6954 or email him at mgebhardt@fremont.gov.
