Pedestrian Hit, Killed By ACE Train In Pleasanton In Apparent Suicide

PLEASANTON (CBS SF) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Altamont Corridor Express Train in Pleasanton Friday evening, according to a transit agency official.

The ACE .10 train was traveling east from San Jose to Stockton around 7:30 p.m. when it struck a person on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks at the Santa Rita Road intersection, according to spokesman Errol Schmall.

The person was killed, and Union Pacific and Pleasanton authorities are on the scene conducting an investigation, Schmall said.

Passengers on the train were uninjured and were taken by bus to Stockton.

The incident did not affect other trains or transit in the area but caused traffic to be redirected around the intersection, Schmall said.

Pleasanton police described the victim as a black male adult, but have not released his identity. Sgt. Maria Munayer said preliminary investigation suggests the death is a suicide.
