San Leandro Fire Displaces 4, Briefly Disrupts BART Service

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- Four people were displaced due to a fire in San Leandro near the BART tracks on Friday night, which briefly interrupted BART service between the Oakland Coliseum and Bayfair BART stations.

The blaze was at an auto body shop in the 500 block of San Leandro Boulevard located near the BART tracks, fire officials said.

The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. and under control shortly before 11 p.m. The American Red Cross was called to assist two adults and two children displaced by the fire, according to fire officials.

The address is located about half a mile away north from the San Leandro BART station. No injuries were reported.

Service was stopped due to the fire near the tracks in the vicinity of the San Leandro BART station around 10:50 p.m., a BART employee said.

Service was restored at about 11:15 p.m. and there were residual delays of 15 minutes as of 11:30 p.m., the employee said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
