Oakland Mayor Jean Quan Involved In Car Crash

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland Mayor Jean Quan was involved in a car crash Sunday after witnesses say she ran a red light while possibly talking on her cell phone.

Quan was involved in the crash at the intersection of 27th and Market Streets around 7 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene say Quan ran a red light, causing the crash.

"I know.  I was standing right there when it happened, and I really clearly seen her run the red light," witness Margaret Randall said.

However, the mayor denies she was on her phone when the accident happened, and says she will submit her phone records to investigators.

A representative for the Mayor's office said it appeared no one had been injured in the accident.

Mayor Quan issued a statement Sunday night, saying "I was driving between two community events in West Oakland when another vehicle struck my left rear tire.  I immediately pulled over and checked to make sure no one was hurt.  Police are investigating what led to the collision, and I'm going to let them do their job and report out the details."
