SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Police were trying to locate an armed suspect who robbed a gas station in South San Francisco on Saturday evening, police said.

Just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, a gas station at 209 El Camino Real was robbed at gunpoint by a suspect wearing a backward sweatshirt with the hood covering his face, according to police.

The suspect went into the store, brandished a handgun and demanded the store clerk to open the cash register. The suspect took cash from the register and fled the scene towards Northwood Drive and Alida Way, police said.

Officers said the suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man in his early 20s standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

He had brown hair and was seen wearing beige cargo shorts, black basketball shoes, a black messenger bag and a red hooded sweatshirt with white lettering across the front, police said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact South San Francisco police at (650) 877-8900 or may do so anonymously at (650) 952-2244.
