San Carlos Man Busted Selling Pot In Single Scoop Cups At His Ice Cream Shop
REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) -- A manager at a Belmont Baskin-Robbins pleaded no contest Wednesday to selling marijuana through the ice cream shop and received a sentence of 90 days in jail and five years' probation, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Martin Abinader, 20, of San Carlos, was charged with felony sales of marijuana after selling small amounts of pot to an undercover police officer on April 8, prosecutors said.
The marijuana sales first came to the attention of Belmont police through a school resource officer at Carlmont High School in Belmont, where Abinader graduated in 2011. He was enrolled at the time at College of San Mateo.
The undercover Belmont police officer wearing a wire went into the Baskin-Robbins and purchased $50 worth of marijuana that Abinader packaged in a single-scoop cup, prosecutors said.
Later, the officer returned and met with Abinader in his black BMW parked outside to purchase another $100 worth of marijuana.
Abinader was arrested and police found him in possession of a small amount of cocaine and hashish as well, prosecutors said.
Abinader entered the no contest plea and was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in county jail with two days credit for time served, as well as the five years of probation. He must complete a residential drug treatment program. He remains free on $30,000 bail and must surrender to the jail on Aug. 23.
