4,300 Acre Napa County Fire Now 90 Percent Contained
NAPA COUNTY (CBS SF) - Firefighters battling the Butts Canyon Fire in Napa County over the weekend have brought the 4,300-acre blaze to 90 percent containment Monday morning, Cal Fire officials said.
Since the fire broke out near Butts Canyon and Oak Valley roads just after noon on Tuesday, four people were injured. Two homes and seven outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze as well, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Chris Christopherson.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
By Thursday, the blaze had scorched 4,300 acres of land located northwest of Lake Berryessa, Christopherson said.
At its peak, fighting the fire took the efforts of 1,682 fire personnel, 101 fire engines, 60 fire crews, 10 bulldozers, nine helicopters, and four air tankers.
Cal Fire officials said that flare-ups have been an issue, but are being quickly extinguished. Firefighters are now patrolling the area looking for, and extinguishing, hot spots.
Road closures and evacuation orders have been lifted.
Firefighting resources have started the demobilization process and are becoming available to support new incidents, including the roughly 7,000-acre Monticello Fire burning on the southeast edge of Lake Berryessa since Friday night, Christopherson said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
