LOS GATOS (CBS SF) — A two-alarm fire that caused $240,000 worth of damage to a two-time Michelin star-winning restaurant in Los Gatos early Monday morning apparently started outside near garbage cans, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

The exact source of the fire at Manresa, located at 320 Village Lane, is still undetermined, according to the fire department.

Damage to the structure of Manresa, including the roof and attic, was estimated at $200,000 and the value of the contents lost inside the business was tabbed at $40,000, fire officials said.

No one was present at the restaurant as the business closed for an annual vacation period starting July 3 and was to reopen Wednesday.

Following the fire, a message on the restaurant’s website said it will not be open or taking reservations until further notice.

Firefighters received a call at 3:58 a.m. Monday from a citizen who noticed fire coming from the roof of the restaurant.

Fire crews punched holes in the roof and ceiling of the building to get to the flames and had it extinguished in about an hour.

Manresa, known for its chef David Kinch, was honored recently by the magazine Wine Enthusiast as among the top 100 wine restaurants in the country, according to the magazine’s website.

A meal at Manresa, inspired by European traditions and seasonal California produce, costs $298 per person when paired with wine.
