Evacuation Order Lifted After Fire Burns Area Near Clayton In Contra Costa County

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- A vegetation fire that started Friday night rural area of Contra Costa County was 80 percent contained and the area of the fire had been reduced from 120 acres to 80 acres Saturday morning, according to Cal Fire officials.

Fire crews remain on the scene of the Marsh Fire, located off Marsh Creek Road, near Aspara Drive, and east of Clayton. The fire was reported shortly before 10 p.m., Cal Fire officials said.

An evacuation order for homes along Bragdon Way was lifted earlier Saturday morning.

The California Highway Patrol has closed all lanes at sections of Marsh Creek Road in front of the Clayton Regency Mobile Home Park, and at Aspara Drive due to the fire. The roadway is expected to reopen at about 2 p.m., according to the CHP.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but CHP officials said it appears the blaze started when a car drove into a power pole, knocking power lines down and sparking the fire.

PG&E crews were on the scene Saturday morning repairing the downed lines, according to the CHP.
