49ers More Depth At Running Back With Injury To LaMichael James

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – Less than a week into training camp the San Francisco 49ers have lost two reserves from their backfield behind veteran running back Frank Gore.

The Niners learned Saturday that reserve Kendall Hunter would likely be lost for the season after tearing his ACL. He had been considered the primary backup to Gore, 31, who has been a consistent performer for the team.

On Sunday, the team revealed that LaMichael James – next in line on the depth chart – had dislocated his elbow in practice and miss about a month. That makes rookie Carlos Hyde and Jewel Hampton the only healthy bodies left to back up Gore.
