2 Shot After Answering Door Of Richmond Apartment

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A man in his 20s and a teenage boy were shot after answering the door of their apartment in Richmond Thursday morning, a police spokeswoman said.

The double shooting happened around 10:55 a.m. after an armed suspect rang the home's doorbell or knocked on the front door in the 4900 block of Bayview Avenue, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

One of the victims opened the front door and the suspect opened fire, striking the man in the pelvis and the teen in the abdomen and leg, Abetkov said.

The suspect fled and the two victims were airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition. Both are expected to survive.

Two small children and a second adult in the home were uninjured in the shooting, Abetkov said.

She said investigators are working Thursday to identify the suspect and said that a description was not immediately available.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Richmond police at (510) 233-1214. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call police at (510) 232-TIPS.
