SONOMA (CBS SF) — A suspect involved in a stabbing who barricaded himself in his home was arrested Friday evening, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Hector Gustavo Vasquez, 55, fled into his residence after stabbing his victim’s stomach and torso, police said.

The stabbing was reported just before 6 p.m. on the 1200 block of Mission Drive between Arnold Drive and Temelec Circle, according to Lt. Tim Duke.

Emergency responders were able to evacuate the victim from the area. His injuries are not considered life threatening, Duke said.

The suspect retreated inside the home, and law enforcement officials engaged in a standoff that lasted several hours.

After hostage negotiations failed, the SWAT team breached a bedroom window of Vasquez’s residence and apprehended him inside, according to Duke.

Vasquez surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody for attempted murder.
