Oakland Mayor Jean Quan's Re-Election Campaign Cleans Up Email Distribution Lists

OAKLAND (KCBS) — Oakland Mayor Jean Quan's re-election campaign began cleaning up its email list on Wednesday after reports surfaced that that political messages were being distributed to Oakland city employees at their city-administered accounts.

Critics called the move an improper use of city resources and ethics experts said it could be implied by employees who received the email that their jobs ma yhinge on participating in Quan's re-election activities.

Michael Colbruno, Quan's campaign adviser and spokesman, told the San Francisco Chronicle that the emails were sent distributed to those who were listed on Quan's campaign "personal press list. "

"We're going to scrub all the dot govs, however they got there," he said.

City workers told the Chronicle that they have also occasionally received unsolicited political emails from other mayoral candidates, including Councilwoman Libby Schaaf, Port Commissioner Bryan Parker and San Francisco State University political science Professor Joe Tuman.
