California Court Rules Companies Must Reimburse Employees For Work-Related Cell Phone Calls

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — If you use your cell phone for work, with a company “Bring Your Own Device” policy, you could be seeing more money in your paycheck.

A California appeals court ruled companies must reimburse employees for work-related calls on personal mobile devices.

The ruling means employees could be compensated for a percentage of your cell phone bill.

Workers were happy to hear the news.

“It’s expensive to have a cell phone with a data plan, and I think it’s appropriate for employers to recognize that,” Joe Noonan said.

The ruling does not go into effect for at least another month.

The court recommends employers review their cell phone policies in light of the decision.
