Dutch Tourists Robbed At Gunpoint While Photographing SF's Lombard Street

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police are seeking two suspects who stole photography equipment at gunpoint from a pair of Dutch tourists late Sunday night as they were taking photos of San Francisco's famously crooked Lombard Street, a police spokesman said Tuesday.

The victims, both men in their 20s, were visiting from the Netherlands. They were standing on Leavenworth Street at the base of Lombard Street at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday taking photographs when two suspects, also described as men in their 20s, approached them, San Francisco police spokesman Albie Esparza said.

One of the suspects walked up to the victims, brandished a handgun and ordered them to hand over their cameras while the other suspect acted as a lookout, according to police.

The victims handed over their cameras and a tripod to the suspect, Esparza said.

The suspect with the gun then ordered the pair to turn around. As soon as the victims did so, both suspects fled the area on foot, according to police.

The victims were not injured in the robbery.

They described the suspect with the gun as a Hispanic man standing about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He had a mustache and was wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt at the time of the robbery, Esparza said.

The second suspect was wearing a dirty red sweater, a baseball cap and shorts with white socks and sneakers, according to Esparza.

The suspects remained at large as of this morning, Esparza said.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspects is asked to contact the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
