More People Buying Drones Means More People Losing Their Drones When They Malfunction

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- As the proliferation of drones increases, so do the instances of people losing their drones as the gadgets fly away from their owners, according to published reports.

Industry blog Photography Bay has detailed a number of "flyaway" reports by people losing their drones which can cost several hundred dollars and up.

A forum on the website lists instances of owners losing their DJI Phantom quad-copter drones when the device stops responding to transmitter commands.

A check of Twitter and Craigslist shows more than a few people are looking for help in finding their wayward drones.

Earlier this year, a San Francisco resident posted an ad on Craigslist titled 'I found your stupid drone" after finding a $1,200 drone with a camera down in the street in front of her and her boyfriend's home in the Panhandle-Alamo Square area.

Meanwhile, joining the ubiquitous missing dog and cat posters is a new kind of 'lost' poster.

Perhaps people get attached to their drones as much as their pets, a notion San Francisco firefighters seem to understand.
