Salinas Man Sentenced For Child Molestation, Abandonement

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- A Salinas man was sentenced to three years in jail for molesting a 5-year-old child and then taking his own 4-year-child, only to abandon her days later, the Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.

Jacobo Ortiz Roque, 25, was sentenced by Judge Lawrence Hayes for child molestation and child abandonment and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

In January, the 5-year-old girl's mother walked in on Roque sexually abusing her daughter, district attorney's officials said.

Roque fled before police arrived and took his 4-year-old daughter with him, but abandoned her days later, according to the district attorney's office.

Roque was found and arrested by police about a month after the reported assault, according to the district attorney's office.

He faced a charge of lewd acts on a child, which is a strike under California's Three Strikes law, district attorney's officials said.
