Daily Madden: Are Stadiums Chasing Away Fans?

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - For Sunday night's sold-out 49ers game at Levi's Stadium, there were a number of empty seats in the stands as some patrons retreated to the new stadium's private clubs and suites.

"We're probably encouraging that stuff, in making some of these places and clubs so nice," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.

"And you've got television there. I've been to events, especially the U.S. Open Tennis, where you'd be in one of those suites, and half the people would be in the suite eating, drinking and watching TV and not out watching the real event."

Madden said difficulties getting in and out of the stadium will make some fans think twice about attending games.

"If you're just going to eat, drink and watch it on television, there's no need to get in all that traffic. That's a mess."

Some 49er fans reported waiting two hours before they could get out of the parking lots after the game. (6:30)
