OAKLAND (CBS SF) - Wet roads and a pair of big-rig wrecks made for a difficult start to the morning commute in the East Bay Thursday.

A collision involving a big-rig and another vehicle closed two right-hand lanes on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland. The accident was first reported at 4:41 a.m. near the Interstate Highway 980 juncture, CHP officials said.

Crews were on scene cleaning up debris strewn across the roadway and working to move the truck, which is reportedly carrying 45,000 pounds in cargo, according to CHP officials.

A second collision involving a jackknifed big-rig tractor-trailer closed two lanes on northbound Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident was first reported at 5:07 a.m. near the Vargas Road off ramp, CHP officials said.

The KCBS traffic maps indicated that the backups behind those wrecks continued well past 8 a.m., adding to delays experienced as a result of wet roads.
