North Bay Congressman Huffman Dodges Questions About Sasquatch, Santa On Colbert Report

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) - California's 2nd District was in the spotlight for on Comedy Central's Colbert Report earlier this week, when freshman congressman Jared Huffman sat down with the shows host for the "Better Know a District" segment.

Huffman (D-San Rafael) represents the North Coast from the Oregon border to the Golden Gate Bridge, but was called out for Colbert for its love of pot, ewoks and the occasional game of naked horeshoes among former presidents.

Huffman held his own under tough questioning from Colbert, and it's a good thing, because Colbert was literally keeping score. Here's the full exchange:

Huffman posted on his Facebook page about what didn't make the show:

Now that the Colbert show has run, I can tell you there were some really funny scenes that didn't make the cut. In one, he poured himself a huge glass (to the brim) of my homemade wine and started drinking it, saying he detected flavors of "liberal overreaching" and "projecting weakness to our enemies." In another, he made me play volleyball against him on a makeshift court in the hallway. We had a discussion about fugitive methane losses, which he called silent but deadly. And lots of marijuana stuff ended up not making the cut. It's interesting to see how they edited 2 hours of taping down to the final segment. Lots of fun!

There's no word yet on what kind of "Colbert bump" Huffman got from the appearance, but he is projected as a big favorite to secure re-election this fall.
