Las Vegas Has Giants Favored, A's Underdogs In Wild Card Playoff Games

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Both the Giants and A's will be on the road this week hoping to extend the 2014 postseason beyond a single game, but Las Vegas bookies say the Giants actually have a slightly better shot at advancing than the boys from Oakland.

According to the gaming website Bovada, the Giants are -114 (you must wager $114 to win $100 on a Giants win) to beat the Pirates in Pittsburgh with ace Madison Bumgarner on the mound Wednesday, a slight advantage over the Pirates at -106 with Edison Volquez throwing.

The visiting A's are -105 for Tuesday's game behind John Lester to beat the Royals and James Shields, who sport a -115 line, as of Monday.

What's surprising about those lines is that, despite being the least likely to win in the wild card round, Bovada projects the A's as the most likely wild card team to win it all. The A's are listed at 11/1 for the World Series title. The Giants are 12/1, the Pirates 14/1 and the Royals are 16/1 bets to win the World Series.
