San Francisco Partners With Google To Roll Out Free WiFi Internet At Public Parks

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Starting Wednesday, you'll be able to surf the Internet for free in certain public parks, plazas and San Francisco recreation centers.

The city is rolling out free WiFi service at 30 open spaces thanks to a $600,000 gift from Google. It's part of a goal to make Internet service a right, not a luxury.

The money will cover the cost for the city to buy and install the WiFi equipment and two years worth of maintenance at the parks.

Program leaders say uploading and downloading speeds will be fast while logged on.

There's already free access in parts of City Hall, San Francisco International Airport, along the Market Street corridor and at public housing developments.

To connect to the free WiFi, select the network #SFWiFi, launch a web browser and click the button to accept the terms and conditions.
