4 Reasons Why We Love Peyton Manning

By @Taylor__Brisco

Peyton Manning is seen as one of, if not, the greatest quarterback to play in the NFL. After the five-time MVP’s performance against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, it is fitting to remember why Manning is so loved by fans, non-fans, and those within the league.

Here's four reasons why we love Peyton Manning.

1. He’s a leader

It can be said that Manning makes those around him better, which is one of the main qualities of a leader. Last season, four Broncos finished with at least 10 touchdowns (WR Demaryius Thomas – 14, WR Eric Decker – 11, WR Wes Welker – 10, TE Julius Thomas – 12). Former running back Knowshon Moreno even became the first Bronco in franchise history to rush for over 1,000 yards and receive for over 500 yards in the same season. Newcomer wide-receiver Emmanuel Sanders is already in line to break his career high record of receiving yards (740); he is at 435 receiving yards – there are still 11 weeks left of play. Manning relies on hard-work, practice, knowledge of the game, communication and motivation to make his teammates reach their full potential. Like Derek Jeter, he is one of the prime examples of what it takes to be a leader.

2. He’s relatable

Although Manning is a hard-worker that takes control on the field and demands perfection, he is also approachable and loved by all of those he has worked with and competed against. Manning knows how to have a good time when appropriate, but also knows when it’s time to focus and get to business...remember, there is a time and place for everything.

3. He’s a winner

Despite the disappointing ending to an incredible offensive 2013 season, Manning knows how to get the job done and win. Before Manning, the Broncos had not reached the AFC Championship game since 2005. Even though the Denver Broncos saw a glimpse of hope with Tim Tebow as their starting quarterback, they were not able to overcome the divisional round in the 2011 season. In the two year timeframe Manning has had with the Broncos, he has reached the playoffs and led the team to consecutive No. 1 AFC seeds. Manning can do a lot, but he cannot do it all. Football is a team sport after all.

4. He’s a record-breaker

Not to mention Manning breaking the numerous records last season like the most touchdown passes in a single season, most passing yards in a single season, and the most four touchdown passing games, he is also on his way to break the all-time touchdown record. Manning became the fastest quarterback to reach 500 career touchdown passes on Sunday and finished the win against the Cardinals with 503 touchdown passes. He broke that record 49 games faster than Brett Favre. Now, Manning is set to break Favre’s 508 touchdown pass record. Look for him to probably break the record in Week 7 of play at home against the San Francisco 49ers on October 19th.
