Cal Fire Makes Gains On Northern California Wildfires

APPLEGATE (AP) — Firefighters gained the upper hand Friday night on a wildfire along Interstate 80 east of Sacramento that threatened 1,000 homes.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported Saturday that firefighters have the blaze contained at 67 percent that consumed 460 acres in the communities of Applegate and Wiemar.

Cal Fire reported that six homes and multiple utility buildings have been destroyed. Two injuries have also been reported, but no details were provided.

The fire began Wednesday and briefly closed Interstate 80. The cause is under investigation.

The Dog Rock fire in Yosemite National Park, meanwhile, was at 311 acres and 54 percent contained. A major route into the park remained closed, though shuttles were being provided into the park. The road is expected to be opened Sunday.
