Santa Rosa Teen Arrested After Fleeing Homecoming Security Officer, Flipping Vehicle In Crash
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A 19-year-old man suspected of being involved in a fight near a high school homecoming event in Santa Rosa sped away from the scene and caused his vehicle to rollover Saturday night before he was arrested, police said.
Around 11:10 p.m. Saturday, an officer providing security for a homecoming event at Maria Carrillo High School was notified of a fight at Rincon Valley Community Park, about a half-mile away from the campus, police said.
Students reported the fight to school staff members, who found those involved in the dispute at the park and ordered them to stop, according to police.
A school staff member chased the group until they rushed into a dark-colored Ford Expedition on Rick Drive, police said.
The driver of the Ford traveled east on Baird Road at high speeds with the vehicle's lights turned off, almost striking the staff member, according to police.
The officer drove to Rick Drive and moved to an opposite lane of traffic as the Ford was coming toward him at high speeds, police said.
The Ford went past the officer, crashed into a park vehicle and fell backwards 40 feet across a driveway before standing upright on the sidewalk, according to police.
The driver ran away from the vehicle and was found by police after a brief foot pursuit, however a passenger who also fled the Ford was not found.
A 17-year-old passenger was found injured inside the Ford and transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he is in stable condition, according to police.
The driver, identified as Santa Rosa resident Ricardo Gonzalez, was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and resisting arrest, police said.
Police believe the people involved in the fight were not associated with the homecoming event.
