Oakland Mayoral Candidate Returns Campaign Donations From A's Owner Lew Wolff
OAKLAND (KCBS) -- Oakland mayoral candidate Rebecca Kaplan's campaign says she'll return 21-hundred dollars in donations from Oakland Athletics owner Lew Wolff and his family.
KCBS and KPIX 5 reporter Phil Matier wrote in Monday's Matier and Ross column in the San Francisco Chronicle that Wolff gave the current councilwoman $700 on August 18th, a month after Kaplan helped negotiate the A's new ten-year lease at the Coliseum.
Wolff's wife Jean then gave another $700 on August 19th and their daughter contributed $700 on September 3rd.
Oakland law bars anyone in contract talks with the city from donating to a candidate from the start of negotiations until six months after the deal is done.
