Daily Madden: Giants' Teamwork Silences KC Early
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - It was already 3-0 Giants when the Kansas City Royals got to bat in their first World Series game since 1985.
"You learn a lot about other sports," Madden said. "Everyone talks about the crowd and how it's going to be difficult to play there and they're so excited, the whole thing. And all you have to do is take the game over and take the game over right away. And that's what the Giants did... The whole air went out of that place. It's just like a big balloon that they stuck a pin in."
Madison Bumgarner's steady pitching kept the Royals fans quiet throughout the rest of the game, which ended 7-1. But Madden said no one player can take credit for the Giants' post-season run.
"They're doing it as a team, which in this day is kind of refreshing," John said. "There's no one guy that has to do it, that everyone has to rely on. I mean it truly is a team, and it's a team with a real good manager."
Madden said other clubs can learn from the Giants' success.
"You can't buy chemistry. You can buy numbers, you can buy statistics, you can buy all that. But you can't buy chemistry. Chemistry has to be developed and then it has to be nurtured and then it has to be owned. And that's what the Giants have." (6:35)
