Caught On Video: Newark Police Officers Save Unconscious Woman From Burning Car

NEWARK (KPIX 5) – Police officers in Newark are being commended for bravery for saving an unconscious woman trapped in a burning car Thursday evening.

According to police, officers responded to calls of a car on fire following a crash near Cedar Blvd. and Cedar Court around 6 p.m. Thursday. The car slammed into a tree and the driver was trapped inside.

The first officer who arrived at the scene tried to get the woman out of the burning car, but was unable because she was wedged inside the car. A second officer attempted to put the fire out with an extinguisher, but reignited.

When a third officer arrived, they were able to cut the driver's seat belt and pull her from the burning car.

Police said the driver, a 55-year-old woman from Union City is being treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
