Off-Duty Police Officer Struck By Car In SF Tenderloin District

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An off-duty San Francisco police officer was hit by a car at Leavenworth and Ellis streets in the city's Tenderloin district at about 3:15 p.m. Friday, police said.

The motorist attempted to flee on-duty officers who responded to the scene but he crashed into another car about a mile away at Steiner and Geary streets, according to police.

The suspect fled on foot but officers were able to arrest him, police said.

A woman who was trapped in her vehicle at the second crash scene was rescued by first responders and was taken to a local hospital.

San Francisco police said the suspect faces a number of felony charges but said they aren't releasing his name at this time because the incident is still being investigated.

Police didn't release any information on the condition of the off-duty officer or the woman who was trapped in her car.
